The Chamber has partnered with Manitoulin Island Web Design with a new programme called Komputers4Kids.
With the collection in 2009 of electronics and computers being a successful programme it was felt that all this hardware going off-island was a waste - some use can be made of old computers here on Manitoulin and we are embarking on this new programme having already accumulated some nineteen recycled computers.
We need to identify families that have a child that can make good use of a computer to complete homework assignments. These computers will be lacking in ram and storage capacity so their only real purpose will be for word processing. If you know of a family that cannot afford the purchase of a computer for their child, we would appreciate a call. Bob Taylor 377-5900 or Pat Keenan 282-2900.
The Chamber will be identifying locales where old computers can be donated for this purpose but calling the two numbers above can be used and we'll come to you to pick them up, if you wish.
We have the ability to rework computers that no longer work - if too far gone, the various parts and software can be shuffled from several computers to make one working computer. There is also a need for peripheral equipment such as printers, mice and their associated software - we can't fix broken printers however.
So if you can help us out please do - we're hoping that we can recycle as many computers as possible before the coming 2010 electronics/computer collection
